The Ciseog / Skib
Ciseogs were traditionally used in many parts of Ireland to strain the cooked potatoes. The potatoes were tipped into the basket which was then placed back over the pot to keep the food warm. The whole family sat around the vessel and ate out of it communally. Sometimes there was no table and people sat upon the floor and the basket functioned as the table also.
These days they are more often enjoyed as a decorative piece for the wall or centre of the table.
These Irish grown, sown & woven baskets are made from willow beds nestled in the heart of the Boggeragh Mountains of Co. Cork.
Willow baskets are hardy items & can last many lifetimes with the proper care.
In the ancient Celtic Ogham (ow-uhm) alphabet, S is for Saille (sahl-yeh) & is associated with the willow tree.
Note: Willow is a natural material so colours / shades may vary slightly to those imaged

Shipping Services & Rates:
There has been a noticeable increase in freight & shipping costs worldwide, the reasons are broad & complex; soaring demand, a shortage of containers, saturated ports, too few ships, shortage of workers, customs complexities and of course the impact of fule price increases.
This challenge is in no way unique to us at Irish Crafts but we have been left with no option but to increase shipping prices and adjust 'free shipping' thresholds. We have opted to reflect these increases fairly and transparently - applying them to our Shipping Costs and not simply adding to our product prices which remain among the most competitive in the market.
The table below provides an overview of the shipping destinations, estimated days & rates. If your destination is not listed, we may be able to provide you with a quote via email, please contact us.

If you reside outside the European Union (EU VAT Area) local taxes/duties are not included in your order total & are not the responsibility of the Irish Crafts.
